My Approach

My approach is grounded in person-centered therapy — which means I meet you as a whole human, not a diagnosis or a problem to be fixed. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all methods. I often draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) because it makes space for the different parts of ourselves with honesty and respect, but I also bring in other approaches when they fit. I see techniques as tools, not as rules. What matters most is the connection between us. That relationship is where trust is built, defenses start to loosen, and the possibility of real change takes shape.

I bring to this work more than formal training — I bring a life that has been both demanding and expansive. I put myself through university by tree planting, waitressing, and taking on whatever work was needed, eventually building a career as a librarian and earning three degrees. My passion for literacy carried me across continents — teaching in Asia, working on community projects in West Africa, and leading book clubs in a women’s prison in Canada.

I’ve also taught law and justice education, experiences that deepened my commitment to social justice and shaped the lens through which I see people’s struggles. Along the way, I’ve navigated divorce, travel, and reinvention. These experiences, together with my clinical education, have shaped a perspective that is steady, unpretentious, and forged in resilience. In the therapy room, I bring that steadiness with humility and a fierce respect for the courage it takes to show up and do this kind of work.
